10 week writing programme

In a world that experiences a constant barrage of written information, most of which is either opinion based, intentionally misleading or complete manipulations of truth, engaging in the craft and energetic artistry of writing is a powerful human technology and necessity for the collective at this time. It is here the multitudinous voice of creation is able to be let loose away from the tether of outcome or forced desire.

The Divining Tongue is an experimental and explorative field for the collaborative efforts of familiarising ourselves with our voices, their shapeshifting nature, the way they long to engage the world as well as sinking into the animacy of language and its creative progeny.

Our creative efforts can often be halted, if not completely snuffed out by the tyrannical coding that forces performance and conformity, as well as the expectation of an unquestioning submission to grammar, syntax and language formation. These learned and reinforced styles of communication act as a muzzle to the creative force that seeks new ways of speaking through the revival of ancient etymologies, the conversion of new language into something other, the butchering of rhythmic expectation and inflection in place of syncopating rises, sharp jolts and off beat kilts that act as shock and moments to call forth a wariness, a presence, to be inside the writing itself. We create portals and invitations with our bodies; and this is the ultimate function.

This writing programme does not aim to provide any professional writing tools, instead to act as a ministering vessel for embarkation into the self as an endless ecological terrain, fused and in flux with the living beat of time and its endless song throughout antiquity (or rather eternity). Do not fear, tools are provided, however, they will be highly provocative and lead you into spaces you may have never been before.

What will be covered:

Meeting the voice: communion versus conformity + styles of agitation (initiation)

Meeting the spirit(s) of critique: summoning and séance with violent perpetrators

Reshaping language: responsive attunement to articulate as requested

Opening portals: & stepping through + ritualising the craft

Do we need more world building?: seismic shifts in feeling the need to control reality fields

Psychic + imaginal realms as tangible places of belonging: the physical realm is imaginal (neuroscientific elements of perception)

Resourcing through the web of creation + reviving the tortured artist

Non linearity: loops, rhythm, cadence, syncopation, off beat jolts: constructing geometrical sanctuaries

Recognising the speaker: submitting to the requirement + speaking in tongues

The art form of imaginal + psychic possession

Rupturous becoming: the rapture in ruin, different modes of being/writing without romanticizing horror

Tending to the release, responsibility and stewardship: not orphaning creative creatures

Translation and the art of visceral self dissolution/dilation + the energetic process of healing through writing (becoming the experience, submerging the body psycho-energetically).

As writers, creatives, mothers, teachers, facilitators…we are required to question the paradigms in which we are submerged in including the insidious and delicate ways in which the psycho-spiritual and healing spheres have been co-opted into a hyper-individualised operation. This understanding is essential if we are to release our writing into the world from a soulful place rather than a self serving seat of inflation.

When we return to the relationality, the non-directionality and locality of rupturous becoming, we are able to revive the tortured artist (or simply the artist in any shape or form) that has known they are required to stay in the dark space of immense suffering and intensity in order to be a place holder for the collective; to act as a balancing point to ensure their insanity remained intact through the mirror of devastation, revulsion, mania, depressive dilation that these individuated bodies have been courageous enough to be. Yet, there is a deeper capacity to resource and learn skilfulness inside the terrain of existence and all its dark, murky bends and shadowy corners.

The Divining Tongue brings forth the energetic skillset to be able to exist as a time bending, shapeshifting, emotionally sensitive and imaginatively + psychically fertile writer experiencing the ontological layers of reality, human existence, and modernity. Each voice is shaped and reshaped endlessly by itself own personal experiences as well as the stories of bodies that form its flesh and blood and the broader creative ecologies. This space seeks to celebrate and walk with rogues and wildings that must write because to not, or to feel stunted or collapsed in your expression, feels like moving through life with a noose crushing your neck.

The Divining Tongue is a field of lawlessness where artistry and creative energy is not tapped but merged with.
